Design Seminar

Design Seminar is a course for DMI graduate students at MassArt. In this class, students write essays to explore and discuss topics related to technology. Additionally, they have the opportunity to create artwork inspired by the articles read and discussed in class.

Overview

About this project

The content is inspired by Vilém Flusser’s theory of a surreal future, which led me to reflect on simulations and the film The Matrix. To express my thoughts and emotions on the subject, I used motion graphics as my medium.

Additionally, this class explored the role of linguistics in different cultures. Under Jan’s guidance, we were encouraged to create our own language. I developed a symbolic system based on four dimensions within each character. By arranging these dimensions, the symbols can convey various meanings.

Outcome

A great practice for art project

This assignment inspired me to begin working on my thesis about lucid dreaming. Dreaming, much like a simulation of the brain, parallels the concept in The Matrix, where humans exist within a simulated reality.

Looking forward to speaking with you soon!
